cuidados bucales en niños

A balanced diet helps avoid possible diseases in our teeth and gums at any age, but in the case of children it's more important, as they are in a stage of life where growth and development is total.

Children's Oral Development

From the moment a baby is born, they are in constant change and growth. Childhood is the most important stage of our lives, since it's the moment where the person is formed, takes habits, creates a personality and, of course, develops.

Breastfeeding is the first evolutionary step that is experienced. The development of maxillofacial muscles and the jaw itself is stimulated, since muscles are used to suck the food. At the same time, development occurs in the tongue.

Such sucking action during milk intake helps in the formation of the palate and mouth, molding it appropriately. This has a direct relationship with tooth alignment because breastfeeding, whether maternal or through bottles, collaborates in their adequate maturation and future growth.

Can parents help ensure the mouth formation process is correct?

You can help with the intake of certain foods, but you cannot radically change our mouth.

First, when the baby leaves the breastfeeding phase, it's essential to begin a diet based on solid foods, always under our pediatrician's recommendation. You cannot be afraid of the child chewing and cannot accustom them to constantly taking purees and soups, as we would cause a totally negative effect on their growth.

A healthy diet and good habits should be instilled in children, since due to their cognitive development they are at the ages of learning and maintaining customs that if good will be tremendously beneficial for the rest of their lives.
